BRNO-TURANY AIRPORT INFRASTRUCTURE COMPLETION

The Council of the South Moravian Region agreed, at its 169th meeting taking place on 26th June 2008, the grant application for "Brno-Turany Airport Infrastructure Completion" to be submitted to the Regional Operational Programme of South-East NUTS II Region, Intervention Area of 1.1 – Regional Transport Infrastructure Development. The project implementation was approved by the Committee of the Regional Council of South-East NUTS II Region on 7th October 2008.

The project aimed at a security enhancement at Brno-Turany Airport and a separation of passengers travelling within or outside the Schengen area. The project implementation period was divided into two stages. In the first stage, two special buses were purchased in order to operate the transport within the airport. In the second stage, a new fire fighting truck bearing a water tank pump was purchased.

The overall amount of project costs reached CZK 31,417,000, incl. VAT ./included. The price paid for the airport buses amounted to CZK 17,017,000. The price paid for the airport water tank pump amounted to CZK 14,400,000. The project was co-financed by the European Union. The European Union share represented 85 per cent of the eligible expenditure of CZK 26,300,000. The share of the Regional Council of South-East NUTS II Region, and that of the South Moravian region, represented 7.5 per cent of the eligible expenditure amount each. The regional authority of the South Moravian Region also covered the ineligible expenditure representing CZK 5,117,000.

LETIŠTĚ BRNO, a.s. participated in the tender preparation, a draft documenation specifying technological and functional facility specifications in particular. The same company operates the new airport vehicles and water tank pump.

SPECIAL AIRPORT BUSES


The regional authority of the South Moravian Region signed a contract with IHR-TECHNIKA, s.r.o. for the purchase of airport buses. The company had won the public tender organised by the regional authority of the South Moravian Region. On 17th December 2008, two special airport buses were handed over in a ceremony to the regional authority of the South Moravian Region. On 15th January 2009, the leader of the South Moravian Region handed over these two buses to LETIŠTĚ BRNO, a.s., the operator of the international public airport in Brno - Turany, which has since operated them. The buses give passengers, being transferred from one check-in hall to another, comfort and safety at the international public airport in Brno - Turany.

Technical parameters:

AIRPORT FIRE TRUCK AND WATER TANK PUMP


The existing technological equipment of the fire brigade operating at the airport in Brno-Turany was enhanced during the second stage of the project implementation. A brand new airport fire truck bearing a water tank pump was purchased in order to enhance the airport operation security and the security of the airport passengers at the same time. It has also improved the capacity to intervene in the event of an emergency situation. The contract for the purchase of the airport fire truck was signed with Ziegler Hasičská Technika, s.r.o. which had won the tender. On 23rd December 2010, the regional authority of the South Moravian Region took over the water tank pump. It was handed over in a ceremony to the representatives of LETIŠTĚ BRNO, a.s. and the the fire brigade staff by the governor of the South Moravian Region on 26th January 2011.


The water tank pump isdesigned to fulfil the fire brigade duties arising from the fire safety regulations as well as the civil aviation regulations. The water tank pump is equipped with the most up-to-date technologies. Firemen can intervene with water, foam, powder or carbon dioxide directly from the vehicle. The water tank pump is also equipped with accessories permitting the firemen to break into an aircraft fuselage, a pressure valve, elementary medical equipment and detection equipment. There is a remote lighting pole, an electric exchange and a set of halogen spotlights casting light to where the firemen are intervening.
